Hammock Community Conservation Corporation Minutes
of the June 3, 2008 Meeting The meeting was called to
order at was given and a
moment of silence was observed for those serving to protect our country. ANNOUNCEMNETS: May minutes were approved. Carole McCleery gave the
Treasurer’s Report. We currently have a
balance of $2070.48 Alma Nemrava announced that
we still need volunteers to do phone calling before each meeting. Please let her know if you
would be interested. Program: Environmentally Sensitive Lands Funding Referendum: Ann Wilson reported on the
Environmentally Sensitive Lands Funding Referendum to be voted on at the August 2008 primary. This is not a new tax but
rather the continuation of an existing tax.
A few facts: The program began in 1988 and was re-approved in 2002 Successful acquisitions include: Princess Place Preserve, Bings
Landing, Haw Creek Preserve, River to Sea
Preserve, Shell Bluff, Bulls Creek Camp, Creek’s Landing and others On August 26th, voters will be asked to renew
this fund by approving a tax of 0.25 mills which means a house assessed at $200,000. would pay $3.13 per month to continue the ESL program A motion was made to support
the referendum. It was unanimously
passed. Library Referendum: Jim Ulsamer
reported on the Library Referendum, also to be voted on at the August 2008
elections. A few facts: Voters are asked
to approve a 0.25 mill on the tax bill at a cost of $3.13 per month, if approved this would create $2.6 million in the first
year and $39 million over 15 years Existing facilities are too small to serve the current
population We are unable to meet 5 out of 6 of the core standards
for public libraries Libraries serve everyone A motion was made to support
the referendum. It was unanimously
passed. Candidates for Supervisor of Elections: The following candidates were
present: Angela Apperson, Blair Kanbar,
Carl Laundrie, Melinda Morais, Pam Richardson and Kimberly
B. Weeks. Each candidate was given five minutes tell us what they think qualifies them for the
position, what they want to accomplish if elected and why they want the job. Candidates for
