Environmentally Sensitive Lands (ESL) Referendum August 26, 2008 Background Information:
In 1988 the voters of Currently, On March 5, 2007 the Board of County Commissioners directed staff to work on a mechanism to replenish the ESL fund and place the item on a 2008 election ballot. Proposal: The
proposed resolution would order a public referendum for t levying of an ad
valorem tax for ¼ mill for twenty years.
The targeted voting date is August 26, 2008. This mill, at a 2.5% growth rate, is estimated
to yield approximately $70,000,000.00 (Seventy Million Dollars) over the 20
year period. Included in the resolution
is the flexibility to issue limited tax general obligation bonds for up to
$40,000,000.00 (Forty Million Dollars) in one or more series. Additionally, the Also included in the proposed resolution is a provision allowing for up to 10% of funds collected to be used for improvement (trail, parking, pavilion construction, etc.) and management (controlled burns or removal of exotic/invasive vegetation).
